Countertop FAQs — Your Questions Answered by Dallas Fabricators With 20+ Years' Experience

We’ve been fabricating and installing countertops in Dallas since 2003. These are the questions homeowners ask most — answered directly, no fluff.

Materials and Selection

What's the difference between granite and quartz?

Granite is 100 percent natural stone that is mined, cut into slabs, and fabricated. Every slab is unique. It offers excellent heat resistance but requires annual sealing. Quartz is engineered from ground quartz crystals mixed with resin and pigments. It is non porous, never needs sealing, and provides a consistent appearance. Granite offers natural character, while quartz offers low maintenance.

What types of countertops do you offer?

We fabricate and install five materials: granite, a natural stone with excellent heat resistance starting at $28.95 per square foot; quartz, an engineered, non porous surface ranging from $45 to $85 per square foot; marble, a luxury natural stone known for its classic veining; quartzite, a natural stone harder than granite with exotic patterns ranging from $70 to $120 per square foot; and porcelain, a lightweight material that is UV safe and highly heat resistant. Can I see the actual slab before you cut it?

Yes. We strongly recommend it. Photos and sample chips cannot capture the true veining, color depth, and character of natural stone. Visit our Dallas slab yard at 9011 John W. Carpenter Fwy, Suite B 104, and hand select your exact slab in natural light.

What countertop trends are popular in Dallas right now?

Popular choices include white and gray quartz with subtle Calacatta veining, waterfall islands with mitered edges, exotic quartzite with bold movement, leathered and honed finishes, and mixed material designs such as quartz perimeter countertops paired with a granite or quartzite island.

What's the best countertop material for bathrooms?

Quartz is the most practical choice because it is non porous, stain resistant, and requires no sealing. Marble is a luxurious option for primary bathrooms and powder rooms but requires regular sealing and careful maintenance. Sealed granite also performs well in high traffic bathrooms. Can I use granite or quartz outdoors?

Granite and quartzite are excellent choices for outdoor kitchens because they are UV stable, heat resistant, and weather durable. Quartz should not be used outdoors because UV exposure causes permanent fading and discoloration. Porcelain is also a UV safe option for outdoor applications.

Pricing and Budget

How much do countertops cost?

Granite starts at $28.95 per square foot installed. Quartz ranges from $45 to $85 per square foot. Quartzite ranges from $70 to $120 per square foot. All pricing includes laser templating, CNC fabrication, edge profiling, and professional installation. See our complete cost guide →

Do you offer financing?

Yes. We offer flexible financing options for qualified homeowners, allowing you to begin your project without waiting. Financing details are reviewed during your free consultation.

Do you have remnant countertops available?

Yes. Remnants are leftover portions of premium slabs that offer the same material quality in smaller pieces at reduced pricing. Granite remnants start at $28.95 per square foot. They are ideal for bathroom vanities, wet bars, laundry rooms, and projects under 25 square feet. Inventory changes daily, so call (972) 501-9348 to check availability.

How do countertops affect home resale value?

Countertop upgrades consistently rank among the highest return on investment improvements for Dallas area home remodels. Updated kitchens and bathrooms with granite, quartz, or quartzite can increase perceived value and improve market appeal. Buyers recognize quality stone surfaces and often view them as a premium feature.

Installation and Process

How long does countertop installation take?

Most residential projects are completed within 7 to 10 business days from templating to installation. Kitchen installations are typically completed in one day, while smaller projects such as a single vanity may take only a few hours. The timeline depends on material availability, project complexity, and the current schedule. See our full process →

Do you handle both residential and commercial projects?

Yes. We work with homeowners on kitchens, bathrooms, and outdoor living spaces, as well as commercial clients including restaurants, hotels, offices, medical facilities, and multifamily developments. We have been serving both residential and commercial projects since 2003.

Do you provide digital design previews?

Yes. We provide 3D digital layout previews that show how your slab will be cut, where seams will be placed, and how the veining will flow across each piece. You can review and approve the layout before fabrication begins.

Do you offer rush installation?

Standard projects are typically completed within 7 to 10 business days. Smaller projects, such as bathroom vanities, may qualify for expedited service depending on slab availability and the current production schedule. Call (972) 501-9348 to discuss your project timeline.

Durability and Damage

Are granite countertops heat resistant?

Yes. Granite handles direct contact with hot cookware without scorching, cracking, or discoloring. We still recommend using trivets to protect the sealant layer. The granite itself can handle the heat, but repeated exposure to extreme temperatures may shorten the life of the sealant.

Can countertops chip, scratch, or stain?

It depends on the material. Granite is highly durable but can stain if it is not properly sealed. Marble is softer and scratches more easily. Quartz resists stains and scratches but can be damaged by prolonged high heat. Quartzite is one of the hardest natural stones and offers excellent resistance to scratching, staining, and heat. Small chips in any material can often be repaired with color matched epoxy without replacing the entire slab.

Care and Maintenance

How do I maintain granite, marble, or quartz countertops?

Granite and quartzite: Seal every 12 to 18 months. Clean daily with mild soap and warm water. Avoid acidic cleaners such as vinegar and lemon. Use trivets and cutting boards.

Marble: Seal every 6 to 12 months. Clean with a pH neutral stone cleaner. Avoid acidic substances such as lemon, wine, and vinegar because they can cause etching. Wipe spills immediately.

Quartz and porcelain: No sealing is required. Clean with soap and water. Avoid harsh chemicals and abrasive pads. Use trivets when placing hot cookware on quartz.

How often should granite countertops be sealed?

Most granite countertops should be sealed every 12 to 18 months. The exact schedule depends on the type of granite and how heavily the surface is used. A simple water drop test will tell you when it is time to reseal. If water beads on the surface, the seal is still effective. If it absorbs within a few minutes, it is time to apply a new sealer. We apply the first coat during installation.

Warranty and Trust

What warranties do you provide?

Quartz products include manufacturer warranties that vary by brand, including Cambria, Silestone, and Caesarstone. We also provide a workmanship warranty covering fabrication quality, seams, and installation. Warranty coverage for granite and marble depends on the supplier and stone selection, and we review those details before your project begins.
